Cross spacers = (rows − 1) × (columns − 1), plus T pieces where joints meet the walls. A 5 × 4 m floor in 600 mm tiles is 9 × 7 tiles: 48 crosses and 28 T pieces (84 with 10% spare). Large tiles also need levelling clips, about 242 at 350 mm spacing.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many tile spacers do I need per tile?
About one cross spacer per tile when laid flat at the corners, since each intersection is shared by four tiles. Used upright along the joints, allow one or two per side depending on tile size.
How many levelling clips per tile?
Usually one clip every 200–400 mm along each joint, about 4 per tile for 600 × 600 mm tiles at 350 mm spacing, and more for long planks.
Which spacer size should I use?
Match the joint the tile maker recommends, often 2–3 mm for wall tiles and rectified floor tiles, 3–5 mm for standard floor tiles, and wider for rustic tiles.
