Volume of a cylinder = π × r² × h. A round column 600 mm in diameter and 3 m high has r = 0.3 m, so π × 0.3² × 3 = 0.848 m³, or 848 litres. In feet, a cylinder 2 ft across and 10 ft high holds π × 1² × 10 = 31.4 ft³, or 235 US gallons.

V = π × r² × h: the area of the circular end times the height. Use half the diameter for r.
How do I find the volume of a cylinder in litres?
Work it out in cubic metres and multiply by 1,000. A tank 1 m across and 1.5 m high is π × 0.5² × 1.5 = 1.178 m³ = 1,178 litres.
How many gallons are in a cylinder?
Work out the volume in cubic feet and multiply by 7.48 for US gallons. A 2 ft × 10 ft cylinder is 31.4 ft³ = 235 gallons.
How much concrete is in a round column or pile?
The same formula. Ten piles 450 mm in diameter and 8 m long need 10 × π × 0.225² × 8 = 12.7 m³ before wastage.
What is the surface area of a cylinder?
Curved side = 2π × r × h; add 2 × π × r² for the two ends. Use the curved side for formwork or paint on a round column.
