Spoil to dispose = excavation − soil kept for backfill. Of 300 m³ dug with 80 m³ kept, 220 m³ goes away: 275 m³ loose, about 396 t at 1,800 kg/m³, 28 loads of 10 m³. At 10 per tonne tipping and 100 per load haulage, disposal costs about 6,760.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I estimate soil disposal cost?
Work out the tonnes leaving site (bank volume × density) and multiply by the tipping fee per tonne, then add haulage per truck load. Landfills usually charge by weight; hauliers by load or by hour.
How many tonnes is a cubic metre of soil?
About 1.6–2.0 tonnes in the ground for most soils. Clean inert soil is often charged much less than mixed or contaminated material.
How can I reduce disposal cost?
Reuse as much as possible for backfill and landscaping, keep clean soil separate from waste, and look for sites that accept clean fill at low or no cost.
